About Kathy Musselman

Musselman Mountain Massage

I think that your friendly, caring, helping hands have certainly soothed a lot of sore aching muscles. I had a knee that was giving me problems when I developed water on the knee caps and your magical hands eased my discomfort.

The atmosphere, soft music of the room and the caring person that you are really makes me totally relaxed and when I leave I feel refreshed and stress free.

About Musselman Mountain Massage

Musselman Mountain Massage is owned and operated by Kathy Musselman of Millerstown, Pennsylvania.

Kathy is certified by the National Certification for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (www.ncbtmb.com). Currently, PA does not require any certification for massage therapy. However, Kathy passed the board test for national certification that includes detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, general knowledge of body systems, therapeutic massage and bodywork assessment and application, professional standards, ethics, business, and legal practices.

Kathy is also an RN with 13 years experience working with the geriatric population in nursing homes. She incorporates her nursing experience, medical training, and knowledge of the human body and disease processes into her practice of massage therapy. She has seen the pain of arthritis, degenerative discs, and osteoporosis. Massage therapy has been proven to be an effective therapy to help reduce the pain of these conditions.

Before going into the nursing profession, Kathy worked 13 years as a chiropractic assistant. Seeing so many people in pain encouraged Kathy into the nursing profession. She has furthered that concern by opening her Massage Clinic.

Kathy is a graduate of the Massage Therapist Practitioner curriculum from the Computer Learning Network in Mechanicsburg, PA. She graduated with honors in basic Swedish Massage Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage Therapy, Orthopedic Massage Therapy, Prenatal Massage Therapy, and Hot Stone Massage Therapy. Other curriculum materials included: Reflexology, Shiatsu, Sports massage, Spa modalities, and various energy works.

Kathy has been married to Roger Musselman for over 30 years. Together they have raised three wonderful children. Those children have now been joined by two equally wonderful in-laws, and a beautiful grandson.

Origins of Massage Therapy

I would like to encourage anyone with sore muscles from work or stress or whatever to consider visiting Kathy at Musselmam Mountain Massage. She has helped me and my husband several times since she has opened her business. Her training and knowledge as a registered nurse brings an extra dimension that few if any massage therapist have in this area. She is not only my massage therapist, but a very dear friend.

P.S. I also enjoy her massage just for relaxation.

The art of massage has been practiced for centuries. Indeed there is evidence that early stone-age man used this healing art, documented by cave drawings. There is evidence that early Greek and Roman warriors (460-300 B.C.) were given “rub downs” to increase their stamina for battle.

The early ages proved a fertile ground for the healing arts of massage. The Chinese are thought to be the originators of this ancient art. Extensive written and pictorial records from around 2760 B.C. document the use of this practice. Massage, as a healing art, fell out of favor in the “Dark Ages” due to religious conflicts. The fear of witches and “dark healing” brought the art of massage almost to the brink of extinction. The modern concept of massage is credited to Pehr Henrik Ling (1776-1839). He is the originator of the “Swedish Massage,” which most people will recognize as the basic relaxation technique given in many spas across the world.

Once only the very rich could afford the fabulous spas and salons in Europe. Now, massage is finding its way into American society with the upswing of “alternative medicine.” You don’t have to be rich to enjoy Musselman Mountain Massage, just rich in heart. After all, you deserve to feel better, more relaxed, and refreshed.

An interesting phenomenon happened for the “Baby Boomers” as they sought out stress-reduction strategies. They found that, along with feeling relaxed and refreshed after a massage, the incidence of stress-related illness declined greatly. In today’s spas along with the wealthy socialite you may find a truck driver, office manager, or postal worker in the next room.

The “baby boomers,” always the generation of change and unrest, have now adopted massage as their mantra. Due to the ever increasing stress, travel, and overtime in American society, more and more people are looking for healthy alternatives to pills. They have found it in massage therapy.
